About

The Story Behind Big Hands Australia

I grew up on a dairy farm, where the days started early, the jobs were real, and no one was coming to do the hard work for you.

Farm life teaches you a lot.

If something breaks, you fix it.
If there’s a better way, you find it.
And if a job needs doing, you roll your sleeves up and get on with it.

It also teaches you something else… life doesn’t need to be overcomplicated.

Sometimes the best solutions are the simple ones that just work.

That country mindset stayed with me throughout my career.

From my early days with ICI-Spectrum through to founding RPL in 2000, I spent more than twenty years building a successful chemical distribution business across Australia and New Zealand.

Over that time, we supplied products across home care, water treatment, industrial cleaning, personal care and many other sectors. It was a rewarding journey, and one I’m proud of.

When RPL was acquired in 2021, it marked the end of one chapter and the beginning of another.

After years in the B2B chemical world, I realised I still loved creating products, solving problems and helping people but I wanted to do it in a more hands-on and enjoyable way.

That’s what led me to Big Hands Australia.

I wanted to build a brand around practical know-how, real chemical expertise and products that make cleaning easier, faster and more enjoyable.

Because these days, not everything needs to be hard work.

We all live busy lives. Sometimes cleaning the car on a Sunday morning, washing the boat before a day on the water, or getting the house sorted for family coming over should feel satisfying, not like another chore.

That’s where Big Hands Australia comes in.

Simple, effective, fun products that help you get the job done properly and enjoy the process while you’re at it.

No overhyped promises. No confusing instructions. No unnecessary fuss.

Just smart products that work.

We’re starting with car care, because that’s where the passion is and where proud owners really notice the difference.

But the vision is much bigger.

Over time, we plan to grow Big Hands Australia into other areas including:

• Home cleaning
• Marine care
• Outdoor living
• Everyday practical cleaning solutions

The goal is to create a trusted Aussie brand people can turn to when they want products that are effective, easy to use, and bring a bit of enjoyment back into the job.

For me, it comes back to the same values I learned years ago on the farm:

Work hard.
Keep it simple.
Make it better.
And enjoy the moment when the job’s done right.

Simple. Fun. Backed by science.

Built on Experience. Made for Real Life.

Before Big Hands Australia, my world was chemicals.

For over thirty years, I worked in chemical manufacturing and distribution across Australia and New Zealand. I gained much experience. It’s where you learn what really matters, how products are formulated, how they perform, and what works when the right people put formulations together.

Products often look great on paper but fail in the real world.
Overcomplicated systems that no one enjoys using.
Big promises with very average results.

When you strip it all back, most people don’t want complicated.

They want something that works.
Something they can trust.
Something that makes the job easier, not harder.

That thinking is what led to Big Hands Australia.

Backed by Real Chemistry

Big Hands isn’t a brand built on trends or marketing hype.

It’s built on a genuine understanding of how cleaning products should be designed… from the chemistry up.

Every product starts with the same question:

What works in the real world?

Not just in a lab.
Not in a sales pitch.
But in a driveway, on a weekend, with real conditions and real expectations.

Why Car Care?

After years in B2B chemicals, I wanted to get closer to the people actually using the products.

And there’s no better place for that than the automotive world.

Car owners care.

They notice the details.
They take pride in the finish.
They enjoy the process.

There’s passion there so that’s where I wanted to start.

Simple. Fast. Done Properly.

Cleaning your car shouldn’t feel like a complicated project.

It should be something you can enjoy…a bit of time in the driveway, seeing the results in front of you, and heading out knowing your car looks great.

That’s the philosophy behind Big Hands Australia:

• Keep it simple
• Make it effective
• Make it enjoyable

And most importantly, make sure it works.

Built for the Long Term

Right now, I’m working closely with independent detailers, retailers, and car owners across Australia. I am trying to create safer products where I can.

Listening, learning, and improving.

This isn’t about chasing quick wins.

It’s about building something properly with products that perform, relationships that last, and a brand people can trust over time.

What’s Next

We’re starting with car care, because that’s where there is passion and fun.

This is just the beginning.

The same thinking… simple, effective, science-backed products, will expand into other areas over time.

At the end of the day, it’s not just about cleaning cars. It’s about helping people look after the things they care about, without overcomplicating the process. It's about creating something worthwhile and useful.

Good products don’t need to be complicated to use. And if they can make cleaning a bit more enjoyable along the way… how good is that!

Simple. Fun. Backed by science.

Customer Stories

Chris Ryan

I’ve always been a bit old school when it comes to looking after my car.

Classic 60’s Ford coupe in the garage, bit of time on a Sunday, wax on, wax off… do it properly or don’t bother at all.

That’s just how I’ve always done it.

So when Russell first mentioned Zi-400, I’ll admit, I wasn’t exactly sold. I’ve seen plenty of products come and go over the years, all promising big results. Most of them don’t live up to it.

Ā But I like Russell, and I liked what he was trying to do with Big Hands Australia, simple products, backed by real chemistry, not just sales talk.Ā

So I gave it a go.

First thing I noticed… it’s quick,Ā  it cleans beautifully..

No overthinking it.
No long process.
Just cleaned very well.

The finish straight out of the bottle was brilliant too, clean, even, and it actually looked like I’d put lots of time into the finish.

These days, especially with fuel the way it is, I’m not heading out for long drives as much. But I still enjoy getting the car out, even if it’s just a quick run.

And there’s something about stepping into a car that’s clean, polished, and looked after, it just feels right.

Now my Sundays in the garage are more enjoyable.

Quick clean in the driveway, a finish that ā€˜gleams’ and makes you want to hit the road!

Great results in half the time and it's based on science.

Zi-400 hasn’t changed how much I care about the car, it’s just made it easier to keep it looking the way it should.Ā

And honestly, I wouldn’t go back to doing it the hard way.

If you’re into JDM cars, you know the standard.

It’s not just clean… it’s perfect.

Out here in Asia, the car scene is next level. Whether it’s a small meet-up or a full show, people notice everything: the paint, the finish, the details. There’s an expectation that your car shows up looking right.

And honestly, I’ve tried a LOT of products.

When you’re around cars this much, you see what works and what doesn’t pretty quickly. There’s plenty of stuff out there that looks good in a bottle but doesn’t hold up when it matters.

Russell sent me a few Big Hands Australia samples to try, including Zi-400.

I wasn’t expecting much… but I was impressed.

First thing, the results are clean. Proper clean.

No weird residue, no streaking, no over-the-top shine that looks artificial. Just a sharp, tidy finish that actually looks like the car’s been looked after.

Second… it’s fast. The more you use it, the faster the wash.

Before a JDM Meet, you don’t always have time to go through a full detail. You need something that works quickly but still delivers a high standard.

Zi-400 does that.

Rinse, wash rinse, done. And it holds up under proper lighting, which is where I have seen a lot of products fall short.

Whether I’m taking one of my JDM builds out at night under lights, driving with the crew or on a Sunday family drive, I know it’s going to look niiiiiice.

That’s the difference.

It’s not just about cleaning, it’s about showing up with confidence.

And for something this simple to use, the results are genuinely solid.

Safe to say, it’s earned a spot in my kit.

Built for Aircraft. Now in Your Driveway.

Quick question…

Would you trust the same cleaner used on military aircraft… on your car?

Zi-400 Ultra isn’t just about shine.

It’s been proven to help stop corrosion in its tracks, not just clean surfaces, but actively protect them.

ā€œI didn’t want to build another car cleaner that just looked good…
I wanted something that actually works & is fun to use.ā€Ā  Russell

After more than 30 years in the chemical industry, Russell had seen firsthand what separates products that perform… from those that just promise to.

He understood how good formulations are everything, that corrosion was real on cars, and what it actually takes to stop it.

Zi-400 Ultra comes from that world.

Originally developed for the Military and tested in demanding environments, it proved its ability to slow & in many cases halts corrosion altogether.

That’s serious performance.

But Big Hands Australia isn’t about bringing complexity into your life.

It’s about taking that level of science… and making it simple.

Taking something developed for tough conditions and putting it into a format that works just as well in a driveway, on a Sunday afternoon.

No complicated steps.
No overthinking it.

Just clean,Ā  and get a result you can see straight away.

Cleaning your car shouldn’t feel like a hard project.

It should be quick, easy, and even a bit enjoyable.

Zi-400 Ultra is built on real chemistry but designed for real life.

Simple. Fun. Backed by science.
